2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Heater Core on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Start by making sure the engine cooling system is drained to service and repair the heater core. Take apart and separate the negative battery cable and if you have to, pull off the hoses from the heater core tubes in the engine compartment. Once the instrument panel is gone, get the five screws that fix the heater core and tube cover to the HVAC housing out of the way, after which the heater core and cover can be removed. If you have two climate zones, take out the blend door actuator from the HVAC air distribution housing on the passenger side. Later, remove the screw that holds the heater core tubes and retaining bracket to the HVAC housing. Never let engine coolant spill on your carpeting; instead, have a supply of absorbent towels handy. Unscrew the bolt tying the heater tubes to the heater core, then separate the heater core tubes from the heater core and throw away the O-ring seals. After you have stopped the engine, install plugs in or tape over the heater core ports and then carefully pull the heater core out of the HVAC air distribution housing. Only remove the heater core tubes if it is necessary.
