2008 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Detach the Driver Air Bag on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: To take out the driver air bag, make sure the SRS is paused by removing and isolating the negative battery cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge. Put on rubber gloves, goggles and a shirt that covers your whole arm to protect yourself from any lint on the air bag cushion. Pull the steering column all the way down for convenience. Spin the steering wheel clockwise so that the air bag retainer access at two, six and ten o'clock ends up below the rim at twelve o'clock, one at a time. Place a short handled, flat-bladed screwdriver through the snap retainer wire loop on each armature hook; then, gently draw the driver air bag away so that the retainers do not snap back. After removing every snap retainer, pull the air bag out enough to get to the cable at the back of the air bag housing. Pull the lock straight out from each Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire connector and then remove the insulators found in the air bag inflator connector receptacles. Remove the driver air bag from the steering wheel at the end. A Clock Spring needs to be replaced if the driver's air bag has been triggered.
