2008 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor on the Inner C-Pillar on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: To work on the side impact sensor, first turn off the SRS by disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable, then wait about two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge. Side impact sensors should never be dropped, because a drop can damage them; if this happens, a new sensor must be used. Attach the body wire harness connector to the side impact sensor connector and place the impact sensor over the weld stud on the inner C-pillar so that the sensor's anti-rotation pin goes into the clearance hole. Bolster the sensor by fitting it to the weld stud with an elliptical nut, putting it at a torque of 7 Nm (62 in. lbs.). When the sensor is safe, tighten the trim back onto the lower C-pillar inside the vehicle. If you serve any SRS component, do not attach the negative cable of the battery until the verification test after service is finished.
