You need to first separate the battery negative cable and wait two minutes as the process discharges any stored energy. air bags can irritate your skin, so whenever handling one, remember to use rubber gloves, eye protection and a long-sleeved shirt. Cut the screws on the
Steering Wheel armature that anchor the air bag and pull it aside to see the three electrical connectors at the back. Take off the steering wheel wire harness connector for the horn switch from the horn switch feed connector found on the back of the driver air bag housing, but do not pull on the
Clock Spring pigtail wires or pressure the connector insulator. Squeeze both latches on the Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire connectors to pull them off the air bag inflator connector receptacles. If the driver air bag is already in the steering wheel and if the Clock Spring has deployed, it needs to be changed. When connecting the driver air bag to the steering wheel, match the color and shape of the connectors and listen for a sound to be sure the locking engages. Put the wire harness connector into the hole on the steering wheel horn switch, correctly place the air bag in the steering wheel so no wires are trapped and tighten the screws that secure it to the steering wheel armature to 10 N.m (90 in. lbs.) Always wait to reinstall the battery ground cable until after the check for the supplemental restraint system has been done after servicing the system.
