  A: Before repairing or servicing the expansion valve, cut off the battery cable that connects negatively to the battery. Get the refrigerant out of the refrigerant system. After that, pull out the nut holding the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line to the A/C expansion valve. Separate the A/C liquid and suction lines from the expansion valve, throw away the O-rings and put the refrigerant tubes where they will not block your view. Unbolt the two bolts that hold the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block and once the A/C expansion valve is freed, dump the O-ring seals. Lastly, install caps on or tape over the opened refrigerant line and evaporator tube fittings and all expansion valve ports.
