2007 Jeep Wrangler A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install an A/C Expansion Valve on 2007 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Hold off on putting in the expansion valve for A/C until you have checked and corrected the refrigerant oil level, as low or high oil can cause problems for the A/C system and possibly damage the compressor. When you replace several parts in your air conditioner, check the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to learn the right amount of oil to use. Be sure to replace the O-ring seals and gaskets whenever you open refrigerant lines to stop leaks. The first step is to take out the tape and plugs inside the refrigerant pipes, evaporator fittings and expansion valve connections. Before use, lubricate any new O-ring seals using only clean refrigerant oil and place the seals on the line and evaporator tube fittings, following the guidelines for the R-134a refrigerant and the vehicle's A/C compressor refrigerant oil. After that, attach the A/C expansion valve to the tube tapping block using two bolts, tightening each to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Map the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line over to the A/C expansion valve and put on the retaining nut, tightening it to a torque value of 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). Connect the negative battery cable again, empty the refrigerant system, fix the refrigerant oil level and resume charging the refrigerant.
