2008 Jeep Wrangler A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service an A/C Accumulator for Optimal Performance on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: When servicing the refrigerant, the level of refrigerant oil should be adjusted to stop the A/C compressor from getting damaged or working improperly. A new A/C accumulator should be fitted if the previous A/C compressor suffered an internal breakdown, to be sure the new compressor will not sustain serious harm. If you change more than one part of the A/C system, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to figure out how much oil you need. When replacing only the A/C accumulator, put in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the required refrigerant oil. Always put on new O-ring seals and gaskets if you open a refrigerant line to ensure leaking does not occur. The first step is to get rid of any tape or stopper from the accumulator fittings and condenser ports. First, use clean refrigerant oil to lubricate each new O-ring seal and then install them onto the accumulator fittings. It's important to choose the specified O-rings meant for R-134a. Hook the accumulator (1) to the A/C condenser's (2) blue marker end and hold the metal bolt (3), while turning the bolt clockwise to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Reattach the negative battery cable after you have put on the grille. After draining the refrigerant, add 1 fluid ounce of refrigerant oil to the system's oil seat guide and fill the refrigerant circuit.
