2008 Jeep Wrangler Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Catalytic Converter on a 3.8L Engine on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: If the car has a transmission, insert the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly into the place on the transmission indicated in your vehicle manual if equipped and into the connector where the engine exhaust manifold is located. Loop the nuts through the front exhaust pipe and connect them to the muffler flange and do not tighten them first. Exit pipes must not be less than 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) away from any part of the frame or underbody. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolt to 27 Nm (19 in. lbs.) torque and then tighten the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly assembly nuts to the muffler flange to 27 Nm (19 ft. lbs.) torque. Apply the front pipe to the exhaust manifold flange flange, then tighten the clamp with 10 Nm (95 in. lbs.) of torque. Join the oxygen sensor cables, lift the vehicle and run the engine to look for exhaust pipe leaks, taking action to fix them as necessary after. Also, see if the muffler touches onto the body panels, make any adjustments if it does.
