2008 Jeep Wrangler Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Rack and Pinion Steering System on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Put the rack and pinion on the frame rail and then tighten the bolts until they reach 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). After that, attach and secure the pitman arm, torquing the nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). If required, carefully push or pull the axle assembly to fit the track bar into the hole of the frame rail, clamp it in with the nut and bolt and tighten the bolt to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs.). Place the track bar back at the frame, get rid of the support and lower the car. Gently move the raised steering column forward, position the shaft in the steering box, put in the new coupler pinch bolt and tighten the bolt to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). Connect the hoses/tubes to the rack and pinion and tighten them down to 36 Nm or 27 ft. lbs. After removing the fill plug, place the coolant bottle back on and keep the level correct within the power steering system. Then, have a look at the toe setting.
