  A: The outer tie rod must be raised and supported, with the wheel mounting nuts and the tire and wheel assembly removed before servicing. Loose the tie rod jam nut and move it high enough up the inner tie rod so you can pull the collar off the outer tie rod. After that, pull off the nut that holds the outer tie rod to the knuckle by securing the stud with a wrench and then using a regular or crowfoot wrench to take the nut off. Use Remover, Special Tool MB991113, to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle. After they are mounted, take off the outer tie rod and heat shield from the knuckle. To help alignment and speed up installation, count the number of rotations it takes to release the outer tie rod. Lastly, take the outer tie rod off the inner tie rod.
