2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Power Steering Pump on a 2.4L Engine on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Start by removing as much of the power steering fluid from the reservoir before you remove the power steering pump. Elevate the works and remove the wheel mounting nuts and the complete tire and wheel from the right front part. After that, take off the fastener holding the wheel house splash shield to the drive belt splash shield. When necessary, apart from removing front fascia fasteners, you'll also remove the drive belt splash shield fastener to reach the front fastener. Remove the fastener from the front suspension crossmember then remove the fasteners from the body and you can then remove the drive belt splash shield. Separate the A/C compressor and power steering pump from the accessory drive-belt. Undo the wiring from the A/C compressor, then take out the four bolts and move the compressor into the middle of the car. Use a crowfoot wrench on a long extension from below, put a shop towel between the crowfoot and the pump pulley and unthread the nut on the pressure hose attaching it near the pump. Drop the vehicle and get rid of the grille up front. Lift off the weather-strip at the hood's opening, then remove the fastener and the temperature sensor mounted on the radiator closure panel. Take the screws that attach the upper panel of the radiator and push the cooling module off its lower supports, but never force it. A bolt on the right side just below the lower radiator closing panel holds the screen in place; this bolt can easily be removed for more space. Tie the cooling module in front of the van securing it loosely with a bungee cord. Pull out the clamp fastening the supply hose to the pump fitting and then take out the supply hose. Start by loosening all five bolts: the three attaching the pump to the rig and the two that join the stamped steel bracket to the block and then lift out the bracket. Slide the cooling module in front and remove the power steering pump along with the pulley. If you have to remove the pulley, use the proper method.
