2009 Dodge Dakota Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Clock Spring Assembly on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step to installing the Clock Spring assembly is to disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable which deactivates the SRS system and waited two minutes for the capacitor to drain. Have the vehicle's front wheels pointing straight ahead. Hold the rotor and case still and slide the Clock Spring down onto the steering column upper shaft. Place the hole in the Clock Spring's locating tab against the mounting pin on the multi-function switch and install the Clock Spring with the two supplied screws, screwing them to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) tightness. Connect the two black plastic wire connectors from underneath the steering column to the two slots on the back of the Clock Spring housing. Put the lower shroud on the steering column and then tighten the middle screw that holds it at 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Fit the upper shroud over the steering column and the lower shroud, so the gearshift lever gap hider connects to the opening on the right side of both half shrouds. Line the snap features up and to secure the upper shroud to the lower shroud using a bit of hand pressure, then attach and tighten the two exterior screws to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). First, clip the tilt steering column knob to the actuator on the left of the steering column, then secure it using a 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) screw. When a new Clock Spring is added, unscrew the locking pin that holds the rotor to continue correct centering. On the Clock Spring rotor, index the yellow rubber booted engagement dowel between the two fins at the bottom of the steering wheel armature hub. Put the steering wheel on the steering column, then join the steering wheel wire harness connectors to the top Clock Spring connectors, confirming there are no twists or bends in the harness. Attach the air bag driver back onto the steering wheel and plug in the battery's negative cable.
