2009 Dodge Durango A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can Proper Installation of an A/C Condenser Prevent Damage and Maintain Refrigerant Oil Levels on 2009 Dodge Durango?
A: Before running the system, adjust the refrigerant oil level as recommended by the instructions or problems with the A/C compressor may occur. Use only ND-11 Polyester (POE) oil recommended by Mopar(R) in your Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), as PAG oil may pollute the refrigerant system and damage parts. If this equipment was used on a conventional car, either clean the system with an approved solvent or use HEV equipment for the task. For changing multiple A/C system parts, check the Oil Capacities chart; if you change just the condenser, add 30 milliliters (1 oz) of the right refrigerant oil. Always change out the O-ring seals and gaskets when disconnecting refrigerant lines so no leaks happen. Make sure that the airseals on the radiator and condenser are in the right place for best results. Lock both bolts on the back of the A/C condenser, tightening them about 45 in. lbs. with your torque wrench. Reach behind the radiator and pull it down, then install the condenser/cooling fan assembly and fix it with a 9.5 Nm (85 in. lbs.) tightened bolt. Guide the upper mounting tab of the assembly onto the upper radiator support, secure it and add three bolts to hold it, tightened to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Remove all tape or plugs from the fittings around the discharge and liquid lines and the condenser ports, lubricate the new rubber O-ring seals with clean oil and finally place them along with new gaskets. Snap on the A/C liquid line and discharge line to the A/C condenser and fasten both lines with 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) of torque. Place the discharge line into the retainer on the condenser fan, attach the heat fan wires and their retainers and plug the wire connectors into the condenser fan motor and A/C pressure transducer. When working on a HEV, reconnect the battery by using the service disconnect at the battery pack and in gasoline only models, reattach the negative battery cable. Unload the refrigerant from the system and, if there is a new A/C condenser, put in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil-or check the Refrigerant Oil Capacities table if other components are replaced. After that, charge the refrigerant system.
