2009 Dodge Ram 2500 Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Clock Spring Assembly on 2009 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Shut off the SRS by taking the negative battery connection out and the system capacitor will drain in around two minutes. Guide the car so that the front wheels are right in the middle of your lane. Remove the air bag from under the driver's seat and disconnect the steering wheel wire harness from the upper Clock Spring receptacles. First, take off the steering wheel and afterwards, open the steering column cover on the dashboard. Take off the screw supporting the tilt steering column knob and disconnect it from the tilt actuator. Eliminate the screws where the outboard sections of the shroud meet, then apply gentle thrust inside each side of the shroud to free the snap points. Take off the top shroud, remove the center screw at the base of the steering column and then remove the lower shroud. Unconnect the two wire harness connectors from the instrument panel receptacles just beneath the steering column opening. Remove the instrument panel wire harness connector for the Steering Angle Sensor from underneath the steering column if your car has Electronic Stability Control (ESP). Tighten the two screws to secure the Clock Spring onto the multi-function switch mounting housing and pull out the Clock Spring which should be replaced when the driver air bag has deployed or the Clock Spring fails to operate correctly. If you intend to reuse the removed Clock Spring, attach the Clock Spring rotor to the case which will keep it centered; but if you won't reuse it, you must center it again before fitting it in the watch.
