2009 Dodge Viper Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Steering Wheel and Ensure Proper Airbag System Connection on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: First, put the Clock Spring wiring leads through the hole in the steering wheel behind the horn. Line up the wide flange at the top of the steering wheel with the area missing from the steering column shaft, then push the wheel into place and make sure the steering wheel doesn't bind when it reaches the Clock Spring. Screw in the steering wheel retaining bolt with 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) until the steering wheel is fastened onto the shaft. Place the driver air bag near the place where the Clock Spring wiring is found and link the horn switch wiring connector. Line up the squib wires so that their connector ends match the air bag's, then press them securely in straight and listen or press for a snap. Stick the routing clips for the squib wires on the surface of the steering wheel. Set up the driver air bag correctly and put in the three mounting screws, tightening them all to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Do not attach the black air bag cable to the car until you have passed the air bag System Test, since failing to do so might cause serious or fatal harm. When the test is complete, reattach the battery ground terminal and see if the steering wheel mounted accessories are working again.
