2009 Jeep Commander Brake Booster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: First, open the master cylinder to drain it, next remove the main line from the master cylinder and from the HCU (4). Then, remove the secondary brake line from both the master cylinder and the HCU (near line 4) and pull out the 4 lines (near lines 3) connected to the HCU. Undo the bracket nuts and take out the HCU with its bracket by removing the electrical connector first (5). Take the connector from the brake fluid level sensor that's connected to the fluid reservoir and remove both mounting nuts from the master cylinder to get it out. Remove the vacuum hose at the booster check valve, then get rid of the hush panel and steering column opening cover together as you get rid of the hush panel. Take apart the retainer clip fastening the booster push rod (1) to the pedal pin (2) and bring out the push rod. Remove the wire from the brake lamp switch on the connector, then pull out the brake lamp switch. After that, remove the bolts that attach the booster to the dash panel (4), remove the wire harness clips inside the engine compartment (3), move the harness aside and down (1) and remove the booster from under the vehicle (1).
