2009 Jeep Commander Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How Is the Front Steering Knuckle Installed on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: The installation starts by placing the knuckle onto the vehicle. After that, fit the lower ball joint into the knuckle, attach it with a lower ball joint nut and ensure it is applied to 95 Nm (70 ft.lbs.) of torque. Push the upper ball joint into the knuckle and head in the upper ball joint nut, ensuring it's tightened to 95 Nm (70 ft.lbs.). Secure the outer tie rod end onto the steering knuckle. Tighten the hub/bearing by inserting it and turning it until you reach 115 Nm (85 ft.lbs.). If the vehicle comes with four-wheel drive, place and tighten the axle shaft nut to 135 Nm (96 ft.lbs.). Route the sensor wire away from the chassis and avoid making the line tight or bent. Put the wheel speed sensor into the hub and hold it in place with the mounting bolt, fastening the bolt to between 12-14 Nm (106-124 in. lbs.). After that, install the disc brake rotor and then connect the caliper adapter. Then, fit the tire and wheel assembly and complete a wheel alignment on the car.
