2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable on Rear Drum Brake on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before changing the parking brake cable on a rear drum brake vehicle, first unhook and isolate the negative battery cable from its post. Prevent your car from moving by simply placing something in front of the tires after stepping on the parking brake lever. After removing the center console, pull the parking brake assembly upward and insert a pin punch through the lever mounting bracket to hold the automatic adjustment mechanism in place so slack appears in the cables. Suspend the rear parking brake from the equalizer and remove the rear seat cushion to open up the section holding the cables. Open the rear carpeting to access the cables, then safely collapse the retainer with a 1/2 inch (13 mm) wrench. After that, pull the cable from the bracket. Lift the vehicle, release the nuts on the wheelself mount and remove the tire and wheel from the rear. Take out the brake drum, dust cap and hub nut and slide the hub and bearing off the spindle. Disconnect the cable from the actuating handle and press the locking fingers on the cable holder to pull the cable out of the support plate. Next, extract the two fasteners connecting the parking brake cable to the trailing axle, pull the cable through to the floor pan and slide the cable with the sealing grommet outside of the vehicle.
