2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for a 2.4L Engine for Pressure Hose on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: When fixing and repairing power steering pressure hoses on 2.4L engines, make sure to place them away from the exhaust system, driveshafts and any rough surfaces. Take care of the power steering hose end by cleaning it, the pump end by wiping it and when you see that the O-rings are worn out, install new ones and grease them using power steering fluid. From beneath, mount the power steering pressure hose into the engine compartment, directing the pump end to the left of the A/C compressor and push it into the pump. Tie down the pressure hose to the engine block with a bolt and carefully thread the tube nut from the pump into the end of the pressure hose. Make use of a long extension on your wrench by turning it with a torque wrench and tighten the pressure hose tube nut at the power steering pump to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Then, set the four bolts for the A/C compressor into the engine, tightening them to 28 Nm and connect the A/C compressor wire connectors. Place the A/C drive belt on the drive belt pulley, put the drive-belt splash shield in its channel and secure them both with fasteners to the body and front suspension crossmember. If you took them out, reinstall the fasteners holding the front fascia and the one joining the wheel house splash shield to the drive belt splash shield. Place the tire and wheel assembly on the car and tighten the wheel mounting nuts until you reach 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Secure the pressure hose and routing bracket mounting bolt on the engine block to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.) and fasten the routing brackets and pressure hose to the structural collar, using tightening torque of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Wipe the ends of both the open power steering hose and the port on the power steering gear clean, install any available new O-rings and coat them with power steering fluid. For LHD vehicles, put the power steering fluid pressure hose into its port on the steering gear and avoid contact with other vehicle parts, then tighten the nut on the hose to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). For riverside distribution vehicles, fit the power steering fluid pressure hose into its place on the power steering gearbox, observing the important tips and make sure to tighten the pressure hose tube nut to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Bring the vehicle closer to the ground, top off and release the power steering fluid and inspect all hose connections for any holes.
