2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Power Steering Pump on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: To replace the pump, begin by tidying up the pressure hose end, making sure to cover it up, clearing the pump entrance, adding in new O-rings and applying clean power steering fluid to them. Slide the cooling module forward and fit the pump with pulley into its area, placing the stamped steel support bracket behind the pump. Set the three bolts through the bracket and fasten them by hand into the studs in the engine cover without making them tight. After that, fit the two bracket bolts into the engine block and tighten them to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and tighten the three pump mounting bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Put the hose so that it runs over the engine timing chain cover and away from anything that might scratch it. Slide the hose onto the pump, open the hose clamp and stretch it over both ends of the fitting. Lift and hold up the car, put the end of the pressure hose into the pump and add the nut on the other end to hold the fluid pressure tube. With a crowfoot wrench on a long extension and a torque wrench, tighten the pressure hose tube nut according to the 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.), as measured. Set the four fasteners holding the A/C to the engine engine to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.), link up the wiring connections to the A/C compressor and lastly, put on the A/C drive belt. Align the drive-belt splash shield, install all the fasteners into the body to attach it and then attach the fastener securing the splash shield to the front suspension crossmember. If you take this panel off, put back in the fasteners that secure the front fascia to the lower body reinforcement and the splash shield fastener that links the wheel house shield to the drive belt shield. Attach the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle, fasten the wheel nuts until they are tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and bring the vehicle back to the floor. Get rid of the bungee cord and, with the lower mounts facing up, place the cooling module into position and insert the lower right side bolts for that panel. Secure the radiator closure panel and then stick the ambient temperature sensor on the panel. Insert the hood-opening weather-strip along the bottom edge of the radiator closure and on the front grille. When you are done, fill the reservoir, operate the system and check that no fluid is leaking out.
