The first step however is to drain the cooling system to service and repair the radiator drain plug. Now opening the draincock by turning it a bit counterclockwise until it stops, then turning it a bit back clockwise by 1/8 turn. At last, remove the draincock (2) from the radiator tank. Due caution should be exercised as pliers on the draincock should not be used, as this may damage the radiator or draincock. Before a routine coolant drain, note, you will not need to remove the draincock.
