Remove the remote ground cable from the pin in the left shock tower and place a ground cable insulator over it so it does not accidentally touch something else. Unplug the speed control wires and vacuum hose, remove the screws or bolts, but not the cable and slide the servo out of the way. After that, take the master cylinder out of the booster and remove the vacuum hoses from the check valve on the power brake vacuum booster. Remove the electrical connector and screw mounting from the left frame rail so the purge solenoid can drop down. You will want to find the power brake vacuum booster input rod under the instrument panel, then take a small screwdriver to release the old retaining clip from the brake pedal, discarding it and planning to use a new retaining clip during reassembly. Pull apart the four fasteners that secure the power brake vacuum booster to the dash panel from beneath the dash near the steering column and pedal bracket area. Once the nuts are removed, simply slide the booster forward away from the car. For installing, add the power brake booster beneath the ignition and torque the four bolts to 29 Nm (250 inch lbs.) while it is installed. Grease the bottom of the brake pedal pin where it touches the booster input rod, insert it onto the input rod and fasten a new retaining clip. Attach the left sleeve of the purge solenoid on its wire harness and then fasten it on the left frame rail. Afterward, link the two vacuum hoses with the boost check valve. Put back the master cylinder and attach the fluid level switch as well, then if you have a speed control servo, connect it, tighten both mounting nuts to 6 Nm (55 inch lbs.) and link the electrical connector and vacuum hose. Later, fit the
Throttle Cable and, if you have a speed control, place the speed control cable into the
Throttle Body cam. Also, join the remote ground cable to its ground stud located on the left side of the strut tower. Test the brake lamps, make needed adjustments to the brake switch and then take the vehicle on a road test to confirm it brakes and accelerates correctly.
