Install the rack and pinion by first securing it to the crossmember, fastening it with two bolts tightened to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.), then put the necessary dash seals in place. Align the power steering rack so it's centered when moving it sideways. To keep wheel alignment unchanged, connect the front suspension crossmember to the body where you found it originally when taking it out. Using a transmission jack, put the crossmember in place so that it fits the lines you made on the body, then check the seals under the dash panel. If the vehicle has front crossmember reinforcement brackets, fit the brackets over the rear mounting bushings and set in the screws loosely. Overlay the front crossbrace/reinforcement bracket on the back ends of the 2 rear mounting bushings and fix them down with the mounting screws loosely. All four mounting bolts connecting the front crossmember to the car should be tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and the bracket screws and brace screws should be tightened to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.). After removing the transmission jack, put the heat shield around the rack and pinion and hold it with screws and push-pins tightened to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.). Hook one end of the pressure hose tube to the rack, tightening the nut to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.) and hook the other end of the hose to the catch tank the same way. Mount the power steering hose routing clamps onto the crossmember and tighten the screws until they show 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.) of torque. After that, install the fore/aft crossmember and bolt it through the
Engine Mount in front, finishing with the rear engine mount. If your engine has one, put in the belly pan. Before putting on the outer
Tie Rod End, check the rubber boot between the knuckle and the steering arm and replace the tie rod end if it is harmed. Setup each outer tie rod end on the knuckle arm by attaching a new mounting nut on the stud and tightening it to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.). Put the wheel and tire onto both sides, attach them with the wheel nuts tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), lower the car and remove the steering wheel holder. Make certain the front wheels are pointed straight ahead, then place the middle part of the shaft over the rack and pinion pinion shaft and slide it onto it. While rotating the steering wheel to the right, screw in the intermediate shaft coupling bolt until you reach 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.). Adjust the position of the floor carpet, bleed the power steering system, watch for any leaks and have your wheels realigned if they are out of alignment.
