You should first open the hood, remove the negative cable from the battery and then give it two minutes before removing the air bag. Remove any power left on the car's interior, remove the instrument panel and take out all reusable parts from the old upper instrument panel. Before deploying an undeployed air bag, remember to open the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery, waiting two minutes again for the capacitor to discharge. Open the center console, take out the bin, remove the front door slider on the driver's side using a trim stick (#C-4755) or similar and unbolt the cowl panel from the same side. After that, unscrew four screws on the
Steering Column Cover, free the parking brake from the knee blocker and remove the Data Link Connector (DLC) from in the knee blocker. Undo all the screws from the knee blocker, unsnap the left A-pillar lower extension trim, get rid of three left side instrument panel A-pillar retaining bolts and loosen the roll down bolt. Loosen four nuts at the brake pedal support bracket to the instrument panel, lever up the trim panel of the left A-pillar and unscrew six screws and two wiring connectors in the lower cubby bin. Remove the two left side nuts and two right side nuts from the instrument panel center stack support fastener at the floor level. Then use a trim stick or equivalent to remove the right front door sill plate and the right cowl panel. Gently lift the end cap off the right instrument panel, loosen the A-pillar lower trim, pull out all the retaining bolts from the left instrument panel and relax the bolt holding the roll bar. Carefully lift the A-pillar trim on the right side uppers, lift and remove the
Glove Box and pull up on the rear of the instrument panel top cover to pull it down. Pull off the upper filler bezel above the
Cup Holder, undo the two lower screws and remove the center bezel. Take the center bezel wiring connectors off the HVAC control and switch assembly, take out the cup holder assembly from the instrument panel, remove nineteen screws from the right lower instrument panel trim and pull off the glove box lamp wire connector. Remove four screws and the connectors from the radio, one on the far left panel speaker and four along the top front edge of the instrument panel cover/pad. First, undo seven retaining screws under the seven lower instrument panel covers, then remove six retaining bolts from the upper fence line. Press the back of the instrument panel down a bit, reveal the passenger air bag retaining bolts, unplug the connector from them and lift the air bag firmly from the panel reinforcement. Then, detach the passenger air bag to instrument panel cover/pad retaining screws followed by the passenger air bag to instrument panel reinforcement retaining bolts and gently draw the instrument panel cover/pad back to move the passenger air bag free.
