Begin by removing excess fuel pressure from the engine and after doing that, take out the negative
Battery Cable. First, drain the coolant and then take off the cover of the engine and the air cleaner element housing. Afterward, pull out the recovery container for the coolant and the generator as well. Cut off the line at the
Fuel Rail and next remove the upper
Intake Manifold, the fuel rail and the lower intake manifold. Lift the vehicle, take off the right
Exhaust Manifold, right front tire and right inner splash shield. After that, take out the accessory
Drive Belt and vibration damper, then unbolt the lower accessory drive belt idler pulley and remove the lower outer
Timing Belt cover. Maneuver the vehicle so that it's all the way down and remove both the upper accessory drive belt idler pulley and the
Belt Tensioner. Prop up the engine with a block of wood and a jack on the floor, then remove the upper mount and the bolts from the
Power Steering Reservoir, placing the reservoir aside. Get rid of the rest of the outer timing belt cover bolts and the cover and remove the timing belt. Unbolt and remove the ground strap from the right valve cover to the cylinder head, take off the
EGR Valve and tube assembly and unwind the right cylinder head cover. Uninstall the cam follower and shaft, hold the
Cam Gear together and against the housing and undo the right cam gear bolt. Uncover the timing revolver and remove the bolts for inner timing on the cylinder and the rear thrust plate of the cam. Slowly push back the
Camshaft about 3.5 inches before taking out the camshaft sprocket and bolt and you may have to raise the engine a little. When the bolts are removed, raise and support the front four with rubber bands before giving the rest of the bolts a half-second spin and lifting the cylinder head. Finaly, make sure all mating surfaces are clean and carefully checked.
