When servicing the rack and pinion bushing, first unplug it and while removing, be certain to only tighten the vise moderately. Hold the rack and pinion bushing tightly in a soft jawed vise. You can gently remove seized bushings with a brass punch when you don't want to hit the gear. Take out the front bushings and then take out the rear ones. Unclamp the rack & pinion bushing from the vise and move it to the bench for now.

How to Install Rack & Pinion Bushing on Dodge Ram 2500?

The rubber lubricate oil should be coated all over the bushings so that it can be installed. First, lubricate the oil to the rear bushings and seat them to their gear using a rubber mallet. Then apply the lubricate oil on the front bushings and on the same, seat them in the gear using the rubber mallet. Following the installation of the bushings, you can install the rack & pinion and, if necessary, adjust toe.
