Remove the ground cable from the battery before trying to service or repair the steering shaft. Right after that, remove the air bag module and lock the steering wheel in the straight position, so the air bag does not interfere while you carry out the procedure. After that, simply remove the electrical center and the bolt under the steering wheel, then you can take off the steering wheel from the column above. Just take out the retaining bolts of the Clock Spring enough to remove it, but don't twist or break anything, then take out the combination switch. Take off the ignition lock's electrical plug and disconnect the spring that holds the brake pedal. Then, take out the bolt in the universal joint, then remove the bolts holding the steering shaft to the floor. Take off the steering shaft, with the universal joint still on it, from the steering gear drive shaft and pull out the steering shaft from its rubber grommet above the floor in the cab.
