Dodge Ram 2500 Cruise Control Servo Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Cruise Control Servo on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
Disconnect the battery's negative cable before you begin servicing the cruise control servo. Then, take the servo's electrical connector and vacuum hose off and after that, the harness cable from the servo at the Throttle Body. Open the side of the Battery Tray by removing the bolts that hold the servo and its bracket in position. Place the servo assembly to near the mounting nuts on the side that holds the servo cable sleeve to the bracket and remove the nuts. Draw out the speed control sleeve and servo from the mounting bracket to let you reach and remove the clip holding the cable. Make sure to check which direction the servo is attached to the bracket before you get it off. Attach the servo to the mounting bracket with the hole in the cable connector facing the servo's pin and insert the cable-to-servo retaining clip into the space they form. Feed the servo studs through the holes in the bracket and also the port for the servo cable and then set the mounting nuts on them and tighten to 8.5 Nm/75 in. lbs. Position the servo so that you can fix its wires and its three support bolts to the battery tray. Afterward, connect the servo cable to the throttle body, reconnect the negative Battery Cable and test movement of the accelerator pedal by operating it before starting the engine.
  • Q: How to Install the Cruise Control Servo Located at the Bottom of the Battery Tray on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
The speed control servo assembly sits at the bottom of the Battery Tray. First, unhook the negative Battery Cable at the battery and both cables if you own a diesel car. You can reach the servo by taking off the splash shield on the left-front wheel inside the wheel-house. After that, unhook the vacuum line and electrical connector at the servo and then remove the three screws, being sure to use the correct lugs for engine type support. Cut the servo cable at the Throttle Body and afterward, loosen and remove the two mounting nuts holding the cable sleeve to the bracket. Pull back the speed control sleeve and servo from the mounting bracket, remove the retaining clip when you see it and remember the orientation of the servo to the bracket as you take it out. Hold up the servo to the bracket, fit the cable connector hole with the servo pin hole and attach the retaining clip. Attach the servo to the mounting bracket by threading the studs from the holes in the servo through the holes in the bracket and tighten the two nuts, using the torque detail. Align the servo atop the shown battery tray lugs and fix it in place by tightening the three screws as instructed by the manual. Join the vacuum line and the electrical connector on the servo again and attach the servo cable to the throttle body. At the last step, fit the left-front wheel-well liner again, reattach the negative battery cable to the battery, check there won't be any binding issue by pressing the accelerator a few times and only then turn on the engine.
