Dodge Ram 3500 Cruise Control Servo Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Cruise Control Servo on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
The first step in servicing the cruise control servo is to remove the negative Battery Cable from the battery. After that, pull out the electrical connector and vacuum hose from the servo, then remove the servo cable from the Throttle Body. Take out the three bolts that connect the servo and its mount to the side of the Battery Tray. Put the servo assembly where you can get to the two nuts securing the servo cable sleeve to the bracket and unscrew these nuts. Pull the speed control sleeve and servo apart from the mounting bracket to access and remove the cable retaining clip. Note which way the servo was attached to the bracket before taking it off. Set the servo onto the bracket with the hole in its cable line lined up with the corresponding hole in the servo's pin. Then slide the retaining clip over the cable and install it on the servo. Go ahead and place the servo studs through both the holes in the bracket and the section of the servo cable sleeve. Using a torque wrench, tighten the mounting nuts by 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Connect the vacuum line and electrical connector to the servo terminals, then reinstall the three bolts retaining the servo and its mounting bracket to the battery tray. As the last step, link the servo cable to the throttle, reattach the negative battery cable and before you start the engine, kick up the accelerator pedal to look for binding.
  • Q: How to Install the Cruise Control Servo Located at the Bottom of the Battery Tray on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
The speed control servo assembly sits at the bottom of the Battery Tray. First, unhook the negative Battery Cable at the battery and both cables if you own a diesel car. You can reach the servo by taking off the splash shield on the left-front wheel inside the wheel-house. After that, unhook the vacuum line and electrical connector at the servo and then remove the three screws, being sure to use the correct lugs for engine type support. Cut the servo cable at the Throttle Body and afterward, loosen and remove the two mounting nuts holding the cable sleeve to the bracket. Pull back the speed control sleeve and servo from the mounting bracket, remove the retaining clip when you see it and remember the orientation of the servo to the bracket as you take it out. Hold up the servo to the bracket, fit the cable connector hole with the servo pin hole and attach the retaining clip. Attach the servo to the mounting bracket by threading the studs from the holes in the servo through the holes in the bracket and tighten the two nuts, using the torque detail. Align the servo atop the shown battery tray lugs and fix it in place by tightening the three screws as instructed by the manual. Join the vacuum line and the electrical connector on the servo again and attach the servo cable to the throttle body. At the last step, fit the left-front wheel-well liner again, reattach the negative battery cable to the battery, check there won't be any binding issue by pressing the accelerator a few times and only then turn on the engine.
