Only in cars equipped with the optional rear heater-A/C, the control motor can be disconnected from the rear heater-A/C without taking out the whole unit. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable as the first step, then take off the cover from the rear heater-A/C unit and remove the vertical and horizontal ducts. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the rear mode control motor that is found on the outside edge of the upper housing just in front of the heater-A/C unit. Remove the three screws holding the rear mode motor and slide it away from the upper housing until you can remove it without breaking the connection the motor has with the water valve control adaptor. Anchor the rear mode control motor hub over the water valve control cable adaptor, making sure the flats in the motor hub are in the same place as those on the adaptor. Apply three screws to the motor's mounting bosses in the upper housing and tighten them to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). First, attach the wire harness connector back to the motor, then place the horizontal and vertical ducts into position and finally, cover the rear unit with the heater-A/C door. The final step is to attach the negative battery cable once more.
