The camshaft position sensor is fastened above the oil pump drive shaft on the street car's right side and just beside the oil filter and it only manages fuel synchronization-not the ignition timing. To pull out the sensor, unplug the electric connector, loosen the two bolts and remove it from the oil pump drive. To place the sensor effectively, attach it to the oil pump drive, tighten the two bolts to 2 Nm (15 in. lbs.) and reconnect its electrical wire. If you remove both the Cmp and the oil pump drive, be sure not to let the engine crankshaft or camshaft spin while the Cmp sensor is unattached. First, take out the sensor's electrical connector, loosen the two bolts and take off the sensor from the oil pump drive. First, find the angle of the oil pump drive as it relates to the engine housing before you unbolt and release the clamp. Be sure to observe where the pulse ring and the slot at the top of the oil pump gear point when the assembly comes out of the engine. Get rid of the oil pump drive-to-engine block gasket that is now old. For mounting, clean the hole where the oil pump drive hook fits, insert a new gasket and temporarily put a toothpick through the access hole until it fits the pulse ring. Slide the oil pump drive into the engine, checking that it fits with the oil pump slot and fasten the hold-down clamp bolt only snugly, without tightening fully. Should the engine crankshaft or camshaft rotate, take out the ignition coil rail assembly and the spark plug from cylinder number 1 and rotate the engine until both the timing index mark and the Tdc mark are in alignment. Replace the oil pump drive, checking that it touches the engine block as you slide it and then fit the sensor at the back of the engine, tighten both bolts to 2 Nm (15 in. lbs.) and restart the electrical connection. After removing the spark plug and coil rail, install them again. To make sure the oil pump drive is in the right position, mount the Drb scan tool to the data link connector in the passenger area, select Set Sync, start the engine and let it warm up. With the engine running in idle, In Range will show up on the screen, along with the 00 indicating the oil pump is in place. When you see a plus (+) or minus (-) by the degree number, release the hold-down clamp bolt and turn the oil pump drive until In Range is displayed and it is close to 0. After that, tighten the hold-down clamp bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
