What is the procedure for diagnosing and troubleshooting the coolant temperature indicator system and Coolant Temperature Sensor on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

First of all, the coolant temperature indicator system includes a dash warning light or gauge and an engine coolant temperature sensor. This sensor informs the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and acts as the coolant temperature-sending unit. If overheating is indicated, check the coolant level and wiring harness connectors. The indicator light should illuminate when the ignition is turned to START and the engine is cranking, showing a working bulb. Once the engine starts, the light should go out unless overheating occurs.
