Before servicing the valve stem seal, remove the cylinder head cover. Use Special Tool 8516 Valve Spring Compressor to take off the
Rocker Arms and hydraulic lash adjusters and then remove the spark plug from the cylinder for the replaced valve and seal. Blow shop air into the cylinder to help secure the valves while you take out the springs. Use Special Tool 8387 Valve Spring Compressor to squeeze the valve spring and, if the spring retainer locks are stuck, tap the top of the valve spring to free them for removal. After removing the panel, be careful to take out both halves of the retainer locks and release the valve spring when you unclamp the compressor. After that, get rid of the valve spring, spring retainer and the valve stem seal. Again, use shop air to hold the valves in the cylinder for installing the new valve stem seal. After putting in the spring retainer and spring, squeeze all the valve springs tight with Special Tool 8387 and anchor the spring with the lock halves, correctly releasing the compressor. Stop the shop air, add the spark plug, restore the rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters using Special Tool 8516 and only then replace the cylinder head cover.
