Ignition Switch is an important component of vehicles which helps in starting the engine as well as controlling the charging and electrical parts in a Jeep Liberty including radio, power windows and such other devices. When the Ignition Switch is shifted to the start or run position through key, button or remote control the vehicle's computer then commands the starter solenoid and other ignition parts as to allow the vehicle's engine to start. Regarding the Iss carried out through the period of study, Jeep Liberty has integrated different styles of Ignition Switches that range from the basic mechanical key to the key less type with buttons. While former has a key for start of the system the latter still utilizes transponder signal for its start. However, based on the research made, the primary function of the Ignition Switch has not changed, and repair work is quite conventional, and, as expected, being plug-and-play, for Jeep Liberty models only.

Jeep Liberty Ignition Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Repair and Service an Ignition Switch on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
First, place the ignition key into the cylinder and turn it to the "Off" position; then, take out the key cylinder to start servicing and repairing the ignition switch. Unscrew the Steering Column Cover screws at the bottom and then remove the cover. After that, disconnect the lock cylinder and the multi-function switch. Bring up the ignition switch's mounting screw and hold it down while removing it with a tamper proof torx bit. Withdraw the ignition switch out to the far position to separate it from the tabs. When installing, don't forget to put the ignition key in the cylinder and position the cylinder with the ignition switch. Be sure to set the slot in the switch to the ON position before you begin installation. Attach the electrical connector to the ignition switch at the rear, ensuring you fully lock it in place. Place the switch into the column, then install the tamper proof screw securely to 2 Nm (17 inch lbs.). Put the lock cylinder back and make sure it operates freely as you turn it. Afterward, snake the multi-function switch and lower steering column cover back into place.
