How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on Jeep Cherokee?

Always use the Puller tool C-3894-A when removing the tie rod end to protect its ball stud and seal. Take out the cotter pins and the cylindrical nuts at the tie rod ball studs and drag link at the beginning of your work. Lift up on the rubber tool to release the ball studs and then use the puller again on the clamp bolts to free the tie rod end from the tube. Add the tie rod end into the tube and put the clamp back to its initial place; then tighten the clamp bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). After that, install the tie rod onto the drag link and steering knuckle and hold it in place with retaining nuts. Tighten the ball stud nut on the steering knuckle to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) and the ball stud nut to the drag link to 74 Nm (55 ft. lbs.), put new cotter pins in place after that.

How to Properly Install a Tie Rod End on Jeep Wrangler?

Thread the end of the tie rod into its tube, then fasten the tie rod inside the steering knuckle. Rotate the ball stud nut (3) on the steering knuckle up to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.). Also, fix the tie rod clamp (2) and secure it by turning it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Following that, put on the tire and wheel unit, suspend the vehicle on the ground and line up each front wheel toe.

Thread the end of the tie rod into its tube, then fasten the tie rod inside the steering knuckle. Rotate the ball stud nut (3) on the steering knuckle up to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.). Also, fix the tie rod clamp (2) and secure it by turning it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Following that, put on the tire and wheel unit, suspend the vehicle on the ground and line up each front wheel toe.
