Remove the retaining clips with a small flat object and pull the socket off the stud as you release them. Raise the clips only high enough that the ball studs can slide out and take the support cylinder off the ball studs on top and bottom. Props the liftgate open and braced, undo the strut studs and take out the strut. Don't attempt to unscrew the support rods found under the liftgate with the liftgate down, as opening them at that time can be dangerous or result in vehicle damage.
