How to Service and Repair a Turn Signal Switch on Jeep Cherokee?

To service and repair the turn signal switch, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the knee blocker from the instrument panel. Next, remove the three screws securing the lower steering column shroud to the upper shroud. For vehicles with a standard non-tilt steering column, loosen the two upper steering column mounting nuts; for those with a tilt steering column, move it to the fully lowered position. Remove both the upper and lower shrouds from the steering column. Then, remove the two screws that secure the multi-function switch water shield and bracket to the top of the steering column, followed by the one screw located below the multi-function switch control stalk. Gently pull the lower mounting tab of the multi-function switch water shield bracket away from the steering column to clear the screw boss below the control stalk. Lift the water shield and bracket with the multi-function switch off the left side of the steering column to access the two wire harness connectors. Disconnect the two instrument panel wire harness connectors from the multi-function switch connector receptacles and remove the multi-function switch and water shield as a unit. For installation, carefully install the water shield onto the switch, then position the multi-function switch and water shield near their mounts on the steering column. Reconnect the two instrument panel wire harness connectors to the multi-function switch connector receptacles and position the multi-function switch onto its mounts on the left side of the steering column. Ensure the lower mounting tab of the multi-function switch water shield bracket is positioned to the steering column screw boss below the control stalk, then install and tighten the screw below the control stalk to 1.1 Nm (10 in. lbs.). Install and tighten the two screws securing the multi-function switch water shield and bracket to the top of the steering column to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Position both the upper and lower shrouds onto the steering column and install and tighten the three screws securing the lower shroud to the upper shroud to 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.). If applicable, tighten the two nuts securing the non-tilt steering column upper mounting bracket to the dash panel steering column support bracket studs to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Finally, install the knee blocker onto the instrument panel and reconnect the battery negative cable.

How to Service a Turn Signal Switch While Ensuring Safety Precautions on Jeep Wrangler?

The first step in servicing the turn signal switch is to disable the air bag system. Do this by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable. Then wait two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to discharge. To start, remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel, as well as the two bolts holding the lower steering column shroud to the upper shroud. This condition requires a fully lowered tilt steering column which will be maintained in the released position by the tilt release lever Firstly, remove both shrouds, upper and lower. Next, disassemble the connectors of the wire harness cross body, of the left and right multi-function switches from their respective plugs. After that, unscrew the two screws fastening the multi-function switch assembly to the upper part of the steering column housing. Remove the two screws that fix the right multi-function switch to the left multi-function switch mounting housing. Then, pull the right multi-function switch control stalk to pull it off the alignment pins. Desolder the right multi-function switch and the combination flasher from the left multi-function switch. To install the combination flasher, the right multi-function switch has to be positioned on the left while engaging the alignment pins. Use the two small screws to secure the correct switch and tighten to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) Position the multifunction switch assembly on the above steering column housing and tighten two screws securing it into position to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs). The cross body wire harness connectors for both switches are reconnected, and the upper and lower shrouds are positioned on to the steering column with the locating tabs engaged. Fasten the bottom shroud to the top using two screws with a torque of 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.). If necessary, elevated the tilt steering column and locked it in position. Then, install the steering column opening cover and reconnect the negative battery cable.

Q: How to Service and Repair a Turn Signal Switch on Jeep Cherokee?
A:
To service and repair the turn signal switch, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the knee blocker from the instrument panel. Next, remove the three screws securing the lower steering column shroud to the upper shroud. For vehicles with a standard non-tilt steering column, loosen the two upper steering column mounting nuts; for those with a tilt steering column, move it to the fully lowered position. Remove both the upper and lower shrouds from the steering column. Then, remove the two screws that secure the multi-function switch water shield and bracket to the top of the steering column, followed by the one screw located below the multi-function switch control stalk. Gently pull the lower mounting tab of the multi-function switch water shield bracket away from the steering column to clear the screw boss below the control stalk. Lift the water shield and bracket with the multi-function switch off the left side of the steering column to access the two wire harness connectors. Disconnect the two instrument panel wire harness connectors from the multi-function switch connector receptacles and remove the multi-function switch and water shield as a unit. For installation, carefully install the water shield onto the switch, then position the multi-function switch and water shield near their mounts on the steering column. Reconnect the two instrument panel wire harness connectors to the multi-function switch connector receptacles and position the multi-function switch onto its mounts on the left side of the steering column. Ensure the lower mounting tab of the multi-function switch water shield bracket is positioned to the steering column screw boss below the control stalk, then install and tighten the screw below the control stalk to 1.1 Nm (10 in. lbs.). Install and tighten the two screws securing the multi-function switch water shield and bracket to the top of the steering column to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Position both the upper and lower shrouds onto the steering column and install and tighten the three screws securing the lower shroud to the upper shroud to 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.). If applicable, tighten the two nuts securing the non-tilt steering column upper mounting bracket to the dash panel steering column support bracket studs to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Finally, install the knee blocker onto the instrument panel and reconnect the battery negative cable.

Q: How to Service a Turn Signal Switch While Ensuring Safety Precautions on Jeep Wrangler?
A:
The first step in servicing the turn signal switch is to disable the air bag system. Do this by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable. Then wait two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to discharge. To start, remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel, as well as the two bolts holding the lower steering column shroud to the upper shroud. This condition requires a fully lowered tilt steering column which will be maintained in the released position by the tilt release lever Firstly, remove both shrouds, upper and lower. Next, disassemble the connectors of the wire harness cross body, of the left and right multi-function switches from their respective plugs. After that, unscrew the two screws fastening the multi-function switch assembly to the upper part of the steering column housing. Remove the two screws that fix the right multi-function switch to the left multi-function switch mounting housing. Then, pull the right multi-function switch control stalk to pull it off the alignment pins. Desolder the right multi-function switch and the combination flasher from the left multi-function switch. To install the combination flasher, the right multi-function switch has to be positioned on the left while engaging the alignment pins. Use the two small screws to secure the correct switch and tighten to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) Position the multifunction switch assembly on the above steering column housing and tighten two screws securing it into position to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs). The cross body wire harness connectors for both switches are reconnected, and the upper and lower shrouds are positioned on to the steering column with the locating tabs engaged. Fasten the bottom shroud to the top using two screws with a torque of 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.). If necessary, elevated the tilt steering column and locked it in position. Then, install the steering column opening cover and reconnect the negative battery cable.
