Single cardan U-joint pieces cannot be fixed and should be swapped out as one if they are damaged. Clamp the yoke firmly just where it's thin, not too wide and don't tighten the vise jaws past what is comfortable. To begin, remove the axle shaft and after that, take off the bearing cap retaining snap rings. When removing the caps, add a layer of penetrating oil before the wheels are moved. Use a socket that is slightly bigger on the inside than the cap and place it around the perimeter of the cap on the yoke. In the next step, place a socket that's slightly smaller than the bearing cap between the two bearing caps. Put the yoke into a vise with the bearing cap facing up and clamp down on the sockets to push the bearing cap inside the larger socket. After loosening the jaws, slot out the sockets and bearing cap that is partly stick out of the yoke and later repeat this for the other bearing cap to remove the spider from the yoke. Before installing, place 1/3 of lubricant into the bearing caps and use extra lithium grease to help slide the parts in place. Set the spider inside the yoke, add the seals and bearings and tap the bearings into the bore just enough to keep the spider secure. Attach the socket on one bearing cap and place the yoke into a vise with that socket, tighten the vise to bring the bearing caps up into position to help install the retaining clips. At last, attach the retaining clips for the bearing cap and insert the axle shaft.
