2000 Dodge Dakota A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the Role of an A/C Accumulator in HVAC Systems on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: To start, unhook the negative cable from the battery and let the system stand empty until the refrigerant has left it completely. Remove the wire from the low pressure cycling clutch switch. Should the mounting bracket be there, remove the nuts and take out the servo to reach the place where the refrigerant lines are joined. Relax the band holding the accumulator retainer to its bracket behind the dash, then loosen the two fasteners for the suction and outlet tubes connected to the items on top and bottom of the accumulator and place plugs or tape over each opened fitting. With the screw in the band clear of the bracket's hole, move the HVAC assembly forward and take out the accumulator. Slide the screw from the band into the hole in the dash panel's support bracket. Peel away the safety tape from the refrigerant line fittings on the accumulator inlet tube and the evaporator outlet tube. Make sure both lines are fitted to the accumulator in the dash. Tighten the fasteners to 25.99 +/- 3.39 Nm (230 +/- 30 in. lbs.). Set the accumulator retaining band screw to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.), plug in the wire harness connector to the low pressure cycling clutch switch and then reattach the negative battery cable. Drain the system of refrigerant and add it back with the proper amount needed. Whenever you replace the accumulator, add 120 milliliters (4 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil to the system using only the type specified for the compressor in the vehicle.
