2000 Dodge Dakota Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Start by raising and supporting the vehicle and after that, take out the rear wheel and tire assemblies. Loose the adjuster on the tensioner and disconnect the right cable from the extension cable. After that, take the cable out of the frame clip and guide it through the left cable connector. After that, remove the left cable connector from the left cable and pass both cables through the cable bracket. After removing the right crossover stock mounting retainers from the differential housing, take off the brake drums and remove each cable from the park brake lever. Press in on both ends of the cable retainer tabs fastened to the brake support plate and then take the cables off the plates. To install, stick each cable housing through the hole in the brake support plate until the retaining tabs hold it secure. Do this by pulling on the cable housing. Pull gently on the end of the cable until it is connected to the park brake lever and then pull the end again to confirm it's attached. Install the brake drums and the right cable mounting retainers and then push the cable housings into the cable bracket. First, put the left cable into the cable connector, force the right cable housing into the left cable connector and attach it to the extension cable. After that, place the wheel and tire assemblies on, complete the park brake adjustment step, take away the support and bring the vehicle down.
