2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Brake Caliper on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Elevate and support the car and afterward, take out the rear wheel and tire to work on the brake caliper. Remove a little fluid from the master cylinder using a new suction gun. Replace the pistons in the bottom of the caliper by prying them over and then take out and throw away the brake hose banjo bolt and included gasket washers. First, loosen the caliper support spring, next remove the caps from the slide pins and after that, remove the pins and take the caliper off the anchor. After that, take out the inboard brake shoe. To begin installation, place the inboard brake shoe inside, then apply Dow Corning(R) grease G807 or the grease included with the caliper, to all slide pins and their bushings. The caliper needs to be installed on the anchor, then the slide pin inserted, tightened with 29 - 41 Nm (21 - 30 ft. lbs.) and then the slide pin caps put in place. Mount the caliper support spring above the anchor and set the other end into the lower hole, pressing down and out with your thumb, while using a screwdriver to push the support under the anchor from below. Secure the brake hose to the caliper using new gasket washers and tighten the banjo bolt to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Be sure the hose isn't crooked or bent while doing this. Once all other steps are done, bleed the brake system, fit the assembly to the wheel and tire, lift off the front supports and lower the car.
