2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain Your Brake Pads on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: When servicing the rear brake pads, raise and support the vehicle and get rid of the rear wheel and tire assembly next. Pour some fluid out of the master cylinder brake reservoir using a clean suction gun. Depress the caliper pistons into the caliper by prying the caliper with the top half of the tool. After that, remove the support spring from the caliper by prying it loose. Disconnect the caliper slide pin bushing caps and the slide pins, remove the caliper from where it's anchored and set it down nearby using wire, so that the brake hose doesn't support anything. Take out the inboard brake shoe from the caliper and then remove the outboard brake shoe from the caliper anchor. Apply the inboard brake shoe inside along the caliper and fit the outboard shoe to the caliper anchor. Give the slide pins and brake shoes' slide pin bushings two coats of Dow Corning(R) grease G807 or the grease you got with the shoes, followed by caliper installation on the anchor point. Tighten the caliper slide pin to a force of 29 - 41 Nm (21 - 30 ft. lbs.) and snap the caps on each end of the bushing. Secure one end of the caliper support spring into the hole at the top of the caliper and under the anchor and then position the other end into the hole at the bottom of the caliper, holding it with your thumb and turning down the end with a screwdriver. Reattach the wheel and tire onto the study stand and remove the support before lowering the vehicle. Pump the brake pedal till the caliper pistons press against the brake shoes and give a firm pedal feel; add brake fluid if the level is low.
