2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: What Are the Essential Procedures and Tools for Brake Line Service and Repair on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: For regular maintenance and brake hose and line service, a metal brake tube is suggested, however, double-wall steel tube may be used for emergency repairs when factory parts cannot be found. Bending the metal on brake tubes needs these tools and an ISO flare is formed by using the right tool. Start double inverted flaring by using a Tubing Cutter to tidy up the simple cut, then ream the edges to make a perfect flare. Get a replacement nut for the tube, fit the nut on one end of the tube, put it into the flaring tool and put the gauge form on the other end of the tube. Work the tube into the recess of the jaws in the flaring tool until you feel it stop at the gauge hole that matches your tube size, then pull the bar to tighten the tool on the tube. Place the plug from the gauge into the tube, move the compression disc into place over the gauge and center the tapered flaring screw in the recess on the top of the disc. As soon as the plug gauge is snugly placeed on the flaring tool, tighten the handle to begin the inverted flare. When flaring to ISO dimensions, use the Snap-On (R) Flaring Tool TFM-428 or an alternative. Snip off the bad section with a Tubing Cutter, remove debris inside by spinning the pipe with a pair of pliers and fit a tube nut on the tube. Make certain that the tube is inserted all the way into the flaring tool, right at the top of the tool bar and then tighten the tool bar on it. Set the tubing adaptor on the flaring tool yoke screw, give it a light coat of grease, line it up with the yoke screw and the tube over it and tap the yoke screw until the adaptor sits firmly on the tool bar.
