2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Light Switch on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: If you have to, begin by taking off the steering column cover and lower trim panel to reach the brake light switch. Gently push the brake pedal to the end, then turn the switch around 30 times toward the back to remove it from the bracket. Cut the power line from the switch harness and take out the switch from the car. Before installing, extend the switch plunger all the way out and wire the harness to the switch. Push the brake pedal to apply the brake, then add the tab on the switch to the notch in the bracket and turn it clockwise about 30° to lock it. After releasing the brake pedal, slowly pull back on it; as you pull, the pedal will push the plunger into the switch body. Ensure you do not push on the pedal with more than 20 lbs of force so you don't harm the booster.
