2000 Jeep Wrangler Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Cable on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Begin by lifting the vehicle, loosening the equalizer nuts until you hear the rear cables become slack. Take out the cable from the equalizer and uninstall it and following that, dismount the cable bracket from the upper arm. Get rid of the rear wheel and brake drum, eliminate the secondary brake shoe after that and finally cut the cable section linked to the brake shoe's lever. Secure the wire retainers with a hose clamp and lay the cable over the backing plate's center hole to remove it. When installing, loop the new cable onto the grommet along one end of the backing plate. Then, fit the end of the cable over the lever on the brake shoe and fasten it back on the backing plate. Mesure the brake shoes to the drum with the brake gauge and next attach and fasten the drum to the wheel. Attach the cable/bracket on the top shock arm, fasten it in the equalizer and tightly screw on the equalizer locks. Adjust the parking brakes in the end.
