2001 Jeep Wrangler Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Cable on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: For service, raise the car and pry the equalizer nuts loose until the rear cables are loose. Remove the cable from the equalizer and take it out, then take off the bracket from the suspension arm at the top. Take out the rear wheel and the brake drum, then the secondary brake shoe and unattach the cable from the brake shoe lever. To remove the cable from the backing plate, first compress the cable retainer with a worm drive hose clamp. To set up, install the cable into the attached plate so the cable retainer is fitted and sitting in place. Rout the cable through the lever on the back of the shoe and place the shoe back on the backing plate. Place the brake drum up to the brake shoes, use a brake gauge to adjust it and install the wheel as well. Fix the upper arm's cable and the bracket back into the suspension, hook the cable to the equalizer and tighten the cable using the equalizer nuts. After that, engage the parking brakes.
