2001 Dodge Dakota Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Driveshaft Center Support Bearing on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: To provide support to the center, first take out the rear propeller shaft, then clip back the boot clamp and pull apart the two half-shafts. Hammer and punch the slinger off the shaft to create some space before you insert the Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Splitter Tool 1130. Don't damage the shaft spline when taking out the driveshaft center support bearing and afterwards use a press to remove the bearing. To install, first secure a new slinger on the shaft and use the installer tool to drive it where it goes. After that, fit the driveshaft center support bearing onto the shaft using the Bearing Installer Tool 6052 and drive it home with a hammer. Clean the shaft's splines, apply grease to them and then match the master splines before pushing the half-shafts together. Move the slip yoke boot into place and install a new clamp before you install the propeller shaft back onto the car.
