2001 Dodge Durango Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: Before starting the service on the exhaust manifold, first remove the battery negative cable and lift the car. Release both exhaust pipe to manifold nuts and then lower the car. Should the situation require it, take off the nuts, heat shield and washers on the right side exhaust manifold. Repeat this for the left side. After that, take out the bolts, nuts and washers that secure the manifold to the cylinder head and remove the manifold. Should the studs separate from the nuts as you remove them, install new studs. Attach the exhaust manifolds to the two studs on the cylinder head and then install conical washers and nuts there. Place new bolt and washer assemblies in every remaining arm hole, again starting with the center arm and moving to the outer arms and tighten them all with 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) of torque with a torque wrench. On both the right and left exhaust manifolds, place three washers, a heat shield and nuts on the right side and tighten the nuts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Hold the car higher once again, put the exhaust pipe onto the exhaust manifold, secure it all with bolts, nuts and washers tightened to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque. Next, ensure the vehicle is now lowered and then tie the negative cable of the battery back to the chassis using the original clamp.
