- Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module for Side Impact on 2001 Dodge Neon?A: You should open the hood and remove the battery negative cable to work on the Side Impact air bag Control Module. Taking out the lower seat trim will reveal the underseat seat air bag connector at the outboard spot; unplug the harness side of the connector and clip the shorting clips together to prevent the side impact air bag from deploying. Now, remove the lower B-pillar trim from the required side of the vehicle and take out the seat belt retractor, leaving the Siacm bracket in place, because it is serviced together and a new Siacm will have its own mounting bracket. Free the Siacm from the vehicle by unfastening the ground eyelet, removing the retaining nuts, pulling out the Siacm and unplugging its electrical connector. To install the Siacm, plug the Siacm electrical connector in, set the Siacm in the B-pillar position and screw in the retaining nuts until they reach 41 Nm (360 in. lbs.) of torque. Make sure the ground eyelet sits over the rear top welding stud while you are tightening to retain stability. After reinstalling the seat belt retractor and lower B-pillar trim, plug in the harness side of the connector and set the lower seat trim in place. Do not link the negative side of your battery to the car until the air bag system has been looked at and checked. After that, close up the hood and inspect how the vehicle operates.
