2002 Jeep Wrangler Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before starting any brake master cylinder service or repair, remove the evaporative canister. Break the connection to the brake lines headed to the brake master cylinder and combination valve, then take out the nuts that hold the combination valve brackets in place and remove the valve. After that, remove the mounting nuts of the brake master cylinder and lift it out. Open the drain by removing the cylinder cover. Whenever possible, bleed the brake master cylinder before attaching it. Remove the covering from the primary piston shank and examine the sealing surface at the back of the brake master cylinder body. If the seal is loose, put it back in place and if it's damaged, you should replace it. Screw the brake master cylinder onto the brake booster studs and fasten the nuts using only the original or new nuts to a tightness of 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). After that, mount the combination valve over the brake booster studs using its mounting nuts and torque them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Target by hand and do not cross-thread the brake lines into the brake master cylinder and combination valve first and then tighten the brake master cylinder lines to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.) and the combination valve brake lines to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). Finally, put the evaporative canister back on the car and let air out of the base brake system.
